Hi, I’m Camila! I am a piano teacher with a passion for the visual arts. I love blending these two worlds to create fun, engaging, and creative musical content that supports student well-being and sparks a lifelong love for music. I graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a BMus (Hons) in Performance (Piano) and recently completed a Master’s in Music Education at University College London. At the centre of my teaching philosophy is the development of strong musical foundations, the nurturing of creativity, and the belief that music can support students’ lifelong well-being. In my lessons, students are encouraged to think critically about the music they play. To support a deeper understanding, I integrate a variety of activities including singing, reading, aural training, music theory, and technique, using these elements to inform performance and guide students in making thoughtful musical decisions. I also encourage composition and improvisation, giving students opportunities to apply their knowledge creatively and develop their own musical identity. In addition to music, I studied visual arts in Portugal, the equivalent to UK A-level. This background later inspired my undergraduate final project: an illustrated tutor book for children aged 4-7 titled My First Piano Book: A Fun Introduction for Very Young Beginners. I designed and illustrated the entire book, using storytelling and analogies to explain abstract musical concepts and make the learning fun and engaging. The project was awarded a First-Class mark and is now a central part of my teaching. Throughout my career, I have remained dedicated to creating materials tailored to each student's individual needs. I believe a bespoke approach helps unlock a student’s full potential and ensures their musical journey is as rewarding as possible.
